There are currently eight municipal public indoor pools in the region, as well as two YMCA pools and one University pool. Quite simply, we don’t fit. These pools are all at capacity and many of them near end of life.
When it comes to investing in the health of citizens through aquatics, Victoria comes up short compared to others communities in the Capital Regional District. Victoria invests a disappointing .004 lane meters per person, and as our population increases the investment per person will be less. Neighbouring communities, such as North Ssanich, View Royal, and Ssanich invest at least double that amount or more for their community members.
